OnniBus continues major fleet renewal programme – 8 double-decker buses assembled in Finland in 2026 and 9 single-decker buses with premium seating in 2027 OnniBus continues the systematic renewal of its long-distance coach fleet. In 2026, eight new Volvo 9700DD double-decker buses will enter service. These buses are assembled in Finland at the Carrus Delta factory in Lieto. In 2027, OnniBus will begin renewing its single-decker fleet with nine new generation VDL Futura FHD3 coaches, which will also feature a premium travel class. “With this latest procurement agreement, we have invested around €20 million in new fleet since 2024. Modern, high-quality buses play a key role in both the passenger experience and the daily work experience of our drivers. This investment programme is an important part of our long-term development plan, ensuring that OnniBus remains the smartest choice for intercity travel in Finland. Our goal is simple: make travel smooth and effortless for our customers,” says Joona Hurmerinta, CEO of OnniBus. Premium seating introduced in new single-decker coaches OnniBus has been testing the demand for premium seating since June 2025 through the Lux Express by OnniBus concept. “The premium concept has consistently achieved an NPS score above 70, reaching as high as 74. Customers clearly value additional comfort, which made the decision easy – premium seating will now become a permanent part of our new fleet,” says Henna Ojala-Merikoski, Chief Customer Experience Officer at OnniBus. The new generation VDL Futura FHD3 single-decker buses entering service in spring 2027 will be manufactured in the Netherlands and will have a total of 53 seats. At the front of the coach, an eight-seat premium section will offer extra legroom and enhanced seating comfort. Premium seats will feature several comfort upgrades including extended head and leg support, fabric and vegan leather upholstery, and adjustable fold-out tables with cup holders and tablet holders. “We selected the third-generation VDL Futura because it offers low fuel consumption, which is important both from an environmental perspective and for cost efficiency. The updated design also impressed us in terms of passenger comfort and driver ergonomics,” Hurmerinta adds. “The order of the new generation VDL Futura FHD3 is a natural continuation of the long-standing cooperation between Koiviston Auto Group and VDL Bus & Coach. These buses will be visible in long-distance services across Finland and will help increase awareness of our new model,” says Peter Sandin from VDL Bus & Coach. More double-deckers assembled in Finland entering service in 2026 Since 2024, OnniBus has also invested significantly in new double-decker buses. All new double-deckers are assembled at the Carrus Delta factory in Lieto, Finland. In 2026, eight new Volvo 9700DD double-decker buses will enter service. By summer 2026, a total of 25 new OnniBus double-deckers will be operating on Finnish roads.
